about

I wrote Sweet Maria to comfort a friend who lost her partner to Covid. I know there's nothing that can really help - but this is just one small gesture - and it was one thing I could do to show I was thinking of her. The song offers hope: you will be together forever - beyond this physical world. "The earth, the sun, the stars. Let the spirits play their part. Now this world is in our hearts. We can never part" The genre is Country/Americana style, arranged with only acoustic guitar and vocal.

lyrics

Sweet Maria
I watch the flowers on the table take a bow
Raindrops on the window form a tear
For my love, my dear, my sweet Maria

And It’s a blessing to be where I need to be
For this kiss upon your hand will set you free,
My love, my dear, my sweet Maria

And this hurt upon my heart
Too soon we are apart
We find our peace somehow
I let go somehow

the earth it turns until the morning shows
the birds they sing, their sweetest songs above
For my love, my dear, my sweet Maria

And this hurt upon my heart
Too soon we are apart
We find our peace somehow
I let you go somehow

The earth, the sun, the stars
Let the spirits play their part
Now this world is in our hearts
We can never part

My Sweet Maria

So I watch the flowers on the table take a bow
The raindrops on the window form a tear
For my love, my dear, my sweet Maria
