about

A rootsy/folk/pop based sound and features the backing vocals of the traditional folk singers The Linties (www.footstompin.com/artist-linties). The song is a bit unusual (not Slade) but it's got that 'winter time' feel and I think it's a cracker. Recorded in the 11th century Newbattle Abbey which makes it special in itself.

lyrics

I watched you write a line
I watched you cross it out
you looked for black or white
but all you find is doubt

I watched you close your hands
get down upon your knees
you pray to understand
a mask for your unease

But we are born to doubt
we wish the truth could shout
its simple tale to tell
our job just to listen well

You look for comfort now
harvest all that's kind
pack it up and take it home
yes you look for peace of mind

But we are born to doubt
we wish the truth could shout
it's simple tale to tell
our job just to listen well

So I watched you write a line
I watched you cross it out
no need for black or white
you find beauty in your doubt
